NRE, NRO, and FCNR accounts each carry different tax treatment — and it's easy to get wrong. We help you structure your accounts correctly, claim treaty relief on foreign income, and stay compliant on both sides of the border.
Your NRI status under FEMA (which governs your bank accounts) and your residential status under the Income Tax Act (which decides what you owe) are determined separately, by different rules — and they can genuinely disagree, especially in the year you move. Add a second country's tax system and a treaty that's meant to prevent double taxation, and it's easy to end up overpaying, or under-reporting without realising it. We help you get the accounts, the disclosures, and the relief claims right together, not as separate problems.
NRE for money earned abroad, NRO for Indian income, FCNR for foreign-currency deposits — set up correctly so interest is taxed, or exempt, the way it should be.
Foreign tax credit under India's DTAA network, filed via Form 67 before your return is due — not missed because no one flagged it.
If you're becoming a resident again, we tell you exactly when foreign asset disclosure kicks in — non-disclosure penalties run up to ₹10 lakh.
For your specific mix of accounts and countries, book a consultation — treaty relief depends on the country pair involved. book a consultation
Tell us which countries and accounts are involved — a few minutes is all it takes.
Your FEMA status, tax residency, and treaty position, checked against each other, not assumed.
NRE/NRO/FCNR classification corrected if needed, and Form 67 or Schedule FA prepared where they apply.
We flag the year your status is likely to change, so nothing catches you out later.
Yes, under Section 10(4)(ii) of the Income Tax Act — as long as your FEMA residential status still qualifies as non-resident. It stops being exempt once that status changes, even if your income-tax residency hasn't shifted yet, which is a common point of confusion.
NRE holds foreign earnings in rupees and is tax-free and fully repatriable. NRO holds Indian income — rent, dividends, and similar — and its interest is fully taxable with 30% TDS. FCNR holds deposits in a foreign currency and is also tax-free. The account should match where the money actually came from.
Not twice on the same income, if a treaty applies. India's DTAA network lets you claim foreign tax credit for tax already paid abroad, filed via Form 67 before your return is due — but it has to be claimed properly, it isn't automatic.
Your FEMA status and tax residency both shift, usually not on the same date. Once you're resident and ordinarily resident, you're required to disclose foreign bank accounts, investments, and property in Schedule FA of your return — missing this carries a penalty of up to ₹10 lakh, regardless of whether tax was actually due.
The rules aren't hidden, but they sit across FEMA, the Income Tax Act, and a specific country's treaty — and small timing details, like exactly which date your status changed, decide the outcome. We check your specific country pair and account mix before anything is filed, not after a mismatch is flagged.
