Form 24Q for salaries, 26Q for non-salary payments, 27Q for payments to non-residents — filed on time with deductee details matched to avoid mismatch notices, followed by Form 16/16A issuance.
If your business deducts tax at source — on salaries, contractor payments, rent, professional fees or payments abroad — you're required to file a quarterly TDS return: Form 24Q for salaries, 26Q for other resident payments, 27Q for non-residents. Every deductee's PAN, challan and amount must match exactly, or the return gets flagged.
24Q, 26Q or 27Q selected correctly based on the nature of payment, filed within the quarterly due date.
PAN, challan numbers and deducted amounts reconciled before filing, so your return doesn't throw up defaults or mismatch notices.
TDS certificates generated and issued to your employees and vendors promptly after the return is filed.

Form 24Q covers TDS on salaries, Form 26Q covers other payments to residents (contractors, professional fees, rent, interest), and Form 27Q covers payments to non-residents. Most businesses end up filing more than one, depending on what they pay out.
Quarterly, generally by 31st July, 31st October, 31st January and 31st May for the four quarters of the financial year. Late filing attracts a fee of ₹200 per day under Section 234E, in addition to interest on any TDS deposited late.
A mismatch between the PAN, amount or challan reported in the return and what was actually deposited results in the return being treated as defective, deductees not getting TDS credit, and potential notices from the TDS wing — this is the single most common reason returns get flagged.
If you hold a TAN and have deducted TDS in any part of the year, a NIL return isn't mandatory but is advisable to avoid a default notice for non-filing — we assess this case by case.
TDS returns fail more often on data-matching than on the form itself — a wrong PAN, an unmatched challan or a wrongly categorised payment can each trigger a defective return notice. Getting the reconciliation right before filing avoids all of that after the fact.
